According to most analysts and tech pundits, Apple will not release its new iPhone until September or October. On Sunday night, however, the first images of that super-secret new iPhone may have leaked out.
An anonymous user on the Chinese social networking site Sina Weibo posted the above three images, first spotted by 9to5Mac, all of which purport to show the housing, or outside shell, of the new iPhone. The poster says the images were snapped inside a factory owned by Foxconn, the controversial manufacturer that contracts with Apple to make many of its i-gadgets.
None of that information has been, or could be, verified. Accurate leaks of Apple products have emerged from Sina Weibo posts in the past.
The iPhone pictured here appears to be thinner than the iPhone 5s, and with rounded corners. The iPhone 5s is already pretty thin, compared with competing smartphones; its corners are square.
The rear camera also appears to protrude from the back of the case. That information matches up with some purported schematics of the next iPhone, leaked on Friday.
